Wahoo, others are advocating pedal power in Nova Scotia! I was so excited to see the article in the Halifax Chronicle Herald where Dr. Keith MacCormick is pictured cheering a youth on a bicycle generating electricity to power up light bulbs. Dr.MacCormick, speaking at Gaspereau Valley Elementary school was there to “inspire youth to ride their bikes more” as well as to teach students that using physical energy can generate electrical power. Kudos also to Hans Albarda for designing the pedal power generator. Hans Albarda and Keith MacCormick are both involved with promoting the Life Cycle Kid’s challenge this weekend June 24th. This event is free and is sponsored by the Valley Cardiac Rehab Society and the Town of Kentville . There will be a bike rodeo and a course for mountain bikes as well as other fun physical activities. If you are in the area, head on over to the Valley Sports and Events Centre in Kentville until 3 p.m. and pedal up some power with another generation.
